The newspaper that was long predicted to be dead continues to grow. This is shown by recent figures from MBL: While most of its competitors are falling in total circulation, Dagbladet is growing from 109,473 to 110,092.
The figures include both the newspaper and the digital subscription base in Dagbladet Pluss.
MBL's figures show that the paper newspaper has a daily average circulation of 25,053 in 2022, compared to 24,734 in 2021. This means that the circulation of Dagbladet paper has increased by 1.3 percent.
Bjørn Carlsen, editor of Dagbladet Pluss og papir, believes the development is almost sensational.
- "I don't think anyone would have even dreamed that paper circulation would increase. We have deliberately invested heavily in coverage of the war in Ukraine in the paper newspaper, and we believe this is a key part of the explanation for the growth over the past year," he says.
Carlsen pays tribute to those who work closest to paper production.
- We have a small but highly efficient and experienced team that has the main responsibility for Dagbladet's paper newspaper. They deserve the main credit for these results.
The new figures also show that Dagbladet Plus has also made great progress:
Dagbladet Pluss will increase from 83,303 in the second half of 2021 to 85,023 in the second half of 2022. This represents an increase of 2.1 percent last year. This makes Dagbladet the third largest media house within user payment in Norway.
- These figures are very encouraging for us. We are delighted that more and more people are choosing to subscribe to Dagbladet Plus. We have a dedicated editorial team that works hard to bring you the stories you can't find anywhere else," he says.
Going forward, there will also be an increased focus on TV content in Dagbladet Plus.
- We have both entertainment series and documentaries that will be released exclusively to our digital subscribers during the year. We can guarantee that we will work hard to provide our subscribers with content that enlightens, moves and entertains every single day. Dagbladet Pluss will have something for everyone," he promises.
