Great figures for Børsen

After less than two years online, Børsen has reached a historic milestone. Last week, Børsen was Norway's largest financial website.

There was jubilation in the newspaper offices at Hasle when the official industry figures for week 33 were released. For the first time, Børsen overtook E24 in the number of unique users, making it Norway's largest financial website.

The average number of daily users of Børsen on mobile was 367,056, while E24 had an average of 344,278. Børsen was also larger on desktop, with 123,829 unique daily users, compared to E24's 110,278.

Head of the Stock Exchange and Political Department at Dagbladet, Nicolai Eriksen, is mightily impressed by what his colleagues have achieved.

- This shows what is possible when you can bring together a group of the country's most talented and hungry journalists in one and the same editorial team," says Eriksen.

Bull from day one

The stock exchange and political department in Dagbladet were merged into a joint department just before the new year to strengthen the focus on two important areas for the newspaper.

- At the time, we guaranteed that both our readers and our competitors would notice the investment. Now the figures are clear, and show that we are getting a huge return on a fantastic collaboration. There is great interest in our agenda-setting election material and Børsens' strong delivery of "finance to the people".

Last week, Arendalsuka was the biggest single event here in Norway. Børsen and Dagbladet set the agenda with the revelation that NRK used an unpublished report commissioned by Norwegian Oil and Gas when presenter Fredrik Solvang "arrested" the MDG leader in the party leader debate from Arendal. The stories were read more than one million times.

- This is an absolutely brilliant achievement by brilliant journalists. I almost have to pinch myself in the middle of the index fund, because this would hardly have been possible. The Børsen gang has been bullish from day one, and the return is sky-high," says Steinar Suvatne, head of the political department at Dagbladet.

Stiff competition

Election coverage is important for Børsen, and there is great interest among readers in journalism about economic and business policy. The other most important traffic drivers and initiatives for Børsen are real estate and journalism that brings readers closer to the country's richest and most powerful financiers.

- The competition for financial journalism is fierce, and I'm proud that with eight employees we manage to both set the agenda with a number of important issues and take first place as Norway's largest financial website," Eriksen continues.

Børsen is not counted as a separate website in MBL's industry measurement, as the website is under the Dagbladet domain. The unique figures are the same as those reported to MBL, and are therefore comparable.

Although this is the first time Børsen has overtaken E24 in the industry ranking, Dagbladet's finance initiative has long since taken second place on the list of Norway's largest financial websites on mobile, ahead of newspapers such as Dagens Næringsliv and Finansavisen.

- The fact that Børsen topped the list of Norway's largest financial websites last week is a milestone, and a small piece of newspaper history that we at Dagbladet are incredibly proud of. We see great interest in journalism about economics and finance, communicated in a way that makes it accessible to most people. Børsen is a small editorial team that, together with the political department, works in a very targeted and accurate manner. It's simply impressive to see what they achieve," says Acting Development Editor Jan Thomas Holmlund, before adding:

- Børsen is less than two years old. But we are here to stay, and have proven that we are a competitor to be reckoned with. We have aggressive plans for future growth and promise to fight for readers. Just keep an eye out!
