The Louise Restaurant at Aker Brygge was filled to the brim with an early morning crowd with a keen interest in cars. Aller Media, with Dagbladet's editor Frode Hansen at the helm, hosted the annual Car Breakfast, where the most attractive car of the year was named.

The attendees were given an insight into the car year 2023, and which cars are competing to be the car of the year in 2024. Not least, "Motorkraften" in Aller was presented with two unique car races that have challenged both the way we drive and use cars.

The large car index survey 2023

The highlight of the car breakfast was the major car index survey for 2023, which was presented by Anders G. Hovde, senior advisor at Kantar. This year's list consisted of 24 car brands, and for many it was probably no surprise which car brands topped the list.

With consistently good scores on all the pillars of the car index, Toyota drove straight up to first place, and can thus claim to be Norway's most attractive car brand. Volkswagen followed close behind, while Tesla and Volvo shared third place.

- Toyota wins because they have a very good relationship with their customers. They have understood customer follow-up and make sure that everything is in order. It's easy to be a Toyota customer, and the customer appreciates that," says Hovde about the winner.

Hovde explains that the big, traditional brands are at the top of the index, while new, less traditional brands come in at the bottom.

- "People are curious about the new brands. They end up on the shopping list and help to push well-known brands such as Subaru and Mitsubishi down the sales statistics. This means that there are a number of traditional brands that did not make the cut this year to be included in the index calculation. "The new car market is still a little biased towards the newcomers, but Tesla shows how big they are by taking a podium positionsays Anders G. Hovde.

Several car brands asserted themselves

In addition to the Car Index, winners are announced in various sub-categories, with "Best value for money" being a new category this year. And here are this year's winners:

Volkswagen - Norway's best known car brand. The ranking shows the car brand that Norwegian car buyers are most familiar with.

Mercedes - Norway's most popular brand, and the brand car buyers have the best impression of.

Lexus - Best brand dealer. This brand dealer has the highest satisfaction and preference.

Lexus - Norway's most loyal customers. This is the brand that our own customers prefer to the greatest extent.

BYD - Norway's most famous newcomer, and the brand most new car buyers have heard of.

Skoda - The market's opinion on which car brand fits the statement "Great value for money"
